Jeremy Corbyn is facing a growing backlash from his colleagues after he explicitly said Labour in government would not seek to retain membership of the single market after Brexit.

Contradicting the Labour leader, Carwyn Jones, the Welsh First Minister, however, claimed there is no need to leave the single market on leaving the European Union and that access could be maintained through a Norway-style model.

Theresa May's deal for EU migrants would strip them of their 'settled status' if they leave the country for just two years, it was revealed today.

The Prime Minister proudly announced her "fair offer" to EU citizens living in the UK on Thursday.

The deal allows EU nationals who have lived in Britain for five years to apply for 'settled status'.

On Sunday, Brexit Secretary David Davis said the deal "effectively" gave them the same rights as British citizens. Buried in the 22-page document outlining the plan, which was published today, is the revelation that 'settled status' can be revoked if migrants leave Britain for just two years.

David Davis has risked a cabinet row after he suggested the English language tests for foreign-born nurses was “too rigorous”.

The sharp drop in the number of people applying to come and work in the NHS from overseas - including native English speakers - has been attributed to the test.

Speaking to the Lords EU committee today, Davis indicated he believed the language requirement should be loosened.

“On staffing, the difficultly here is there are a whole series of issues that will effect whether people come to work in the UK,” the Brexit secretary said.
